History of Fauquier

Fauquier County was originally part of the Northern Neck of the Colony of Virginia. The area was named after Francis Fauquier, the Lieutenant Governor of the Colony of Virginia from 1758-1768.

The area has an incredibly rich Civil War history. There are many different walking tours, driving tours, self-guided tours, etc. throughout the county, as well as multiple different Civil War museums and historical trails.

The area’s close proximity to Washington D.C. has assured a consistent population growth, however, the area continues to remain primarily rural. The most recent population estimates indicate that Fauquier County is home to over 68,000 residents.

Fauquier County Public Schools

Fauquier County Public School District (FCPS) serves nearly 11,300 students. The district includes 11 Elementary Schools, 5 Middle Schools, 3 High Schools, and 1 Alternative Learning Center.
